Feeling Unhappy at Work? Treat It as Data.
Most professionals experience periods of dissatisfaction at work at some point in their careers. While the cause of their unhappiness is sometimes tied to an obvious conflict or circumstance, it can also emerge as a lingering sense that something simply isn't working.
Their instinct may be to rush into a new role or make a major career change, but gaining clarity often requires slowing down, asking better questions and looking beneath the surface to understand what’s driving those feelings. Here, our founder Kathy Shanley joins members of Forbes Coaches Council to share how they would guide a client through that discovery process and help them uncover what truly needs to change about their career.
Treat The Feeling As Data
When a client can't pinpoint why they're unhappy at work, I encourage them to treat the feeling as data. We explore what has changed, when they feel energized versus drained and where misalignment exists around values, strengths, relationships or growth. Unhappiness is often a symptom. Once we identify the source, we can determine what truly needs to change. - Kathleen Shanley, Statice
